Education- "Is this keyword of your Career?"

Probably no word in the last few decades has got as much importance as the word “Education” has got. Ever since the technology has become part of our day today life education has got fitting appreciation. I don’t really mean to say before that education didn’t have importance, it was cup of tea of only a few distinguished people who did nothing but study about the stuff that interested them. Taking into account Einstein, he loved to explore theories related to space and time, so we got theory of relativity. Newton, The motion stuff interested him the most so we got Newton’s law of motion. Charles Darwin, he was interested in exploring various species of animals, we got Darwin’s Theory. Name any of the great people, you will find two things in common.

1.                           1. They did what they loved to.

2.              2. They were never taught, they learnt it.

The first point in specific interests me a lot. We often find ourselves doing things we are asked to do and not because we love to do it. How productive and satisfying such a work can be? Not more than something which we really love to do. I am talking about education, so how many of us take up our career that interests us? I did ask this question to many people and surprisingly 90% of the people say they wanted to take up the career they are actually in. So we have 9 out of 10 people who are actually in love with their career, in other words their work, their life. Isn’t that a feel good factor? Then when we go down a little deeper and ask a person if he is really satisfied with things going in his life? 45% of people say NO! so the feel good factor comes down to 5 out of 10 from 9 out of 10!! Why is that, after all your career, profession, work has a major influence on your life.

Let me be practical. How many of us really think what education we get must be a foundation to our career. We hardly relate our education and career. Indeed we treat it as two different entities in most of the cases. I have even had my parents telling me what you learn in college is not what you are going to face in life thereafter. If your education doesn’t support your career what is really use of wasting 22 years of life? If that time was put in actually facing practical things in life you could have been lot wiser.

Some where I feel that what education we are given is below par the actual need. There is really no scope for training a student to face different circumstances and face challenges. What we are actually thought is how something is to be done. There is no explanation for why it needs to be done or what are the other ways it can be done. More over there isn’t real time to stand up and ask these questions. The people who top the class are too busy in digging notes from text and people who are relatively dumb cant really ask fearing the back fire from teachers. Amidst all of them are a few who really discover the art of relating education with career. Those who do that are one who deserve applaud. They do not care for what actually is happening around them, marks and ranks are no real bother for them. They feed their mind with the stuff that counts.

Being an engineer student, the bridging gap between the education thought in colleges and the post college life is increasing. Technically speaking, what we are taught today is already outdated a decade ago. Yet the fact is that there are some basics that really need to be learnt. I might be critical but its unbiased point of view of what I have felt. I will illustrate the “bridging gap” that leads to more mechanical living in my future blogs. Will also cover “they were never thought, they learnt it.”

So to conclude we aren’t so big to change the whole education system of the country. What we need to do is to realize our potential and interest from within, know what actually would go into career we are into and adopt all the necessary habits. If we learn to admire learning what we love to we will one day truly change our life.
